We certainly recognize that many may be new to Buddhism or Blue Lotus. Thus, we’ve compiled a list of questions and answers to hopefully answer any questions you may have.  If you don’t see an answer to your question below please don’t hesitate to contact us for anything you wish to inquire about.

Q: Do I need to be Buddhist to Meditate?

A: Not at all. Everyone, regardless of religious or cultural background can learn to meditate and cultivate a calm mind.

Q: Is there a charge for Meditation Class?

A: No, meditation is open to all who wish to participate. The temple and monks are fully supported with donations. A donation basket is located near the door. Donations are also accepted on our website.

Q: Why is there chanting?

A: Chanting is a traditional way of calming the mind while reciting the Buddha’s teachings. Chanting is not required, but many enjoy it.

Q: Why do people bow to the monks?

A: It is both a symbol of respect and an outward gesture of surrendering the ego. Such an act helps to overcome egoistic feelings and become more ready to learn.

Q: Can I meet privately with a Monk?

A: Yes! Contact the temple to schedule an appointment or to speak with a monk directly.
